Preparing for Your Procedure

A little planning can make a big difference. We recommend taking these steps in the days leading up to your procedure to ensure a calm and positive journey.

  • Arrange for a Companion: If you are receiving IV sedation, you must have a responsible adult accompany you to your appointment. For your safety post-sedation, this person will need to drive you home and stay with you for the rest of the day.
  • Plan Your Recovery Space: Create a comfortable place to rest at home. Have pillows ready to keep your head elevated and have blankets ready nearby for your comfort.
  • Stock Your Kitchen: We recommend grocery shopping for soft, easy-to-eat foods before your appointment. Items like yogurt, soup, mashed potatoes, and protein shakes are great options for the first few days of recovery.
  • Pick Up Prescriptions: Please fill any prescriptions your doctor has ordered ahead of time. Having them ready when you get home will make your recovery much smoother.

The Day Before Your Procedure

Your health and safety are what matter most to us. To prepare your body for treatment and help prevent complications, please follow these instructions carefully.

  • Avoid Alcohol and Smoking: Please do not drink alcohol or smoke for at least 24 hours before your procedure, as these can interfere with healing.
  • Get a Good Night’s Sleep: Rest is essential for helping your body prepare for the procedure. Aim for a full night of restful sleep.
  • Confirm Your Transportation: Please double-check your ride arrangements with your companion for the following day.

The Day of Your Procedure

On the day of your appointment, please follow these final steps for optimal treatment outcome:

  • Follow Fasting Instructions: If you are receiving sedation, do not eat or drink anything, including water, for at least eight hours before your appointment. If you must take daily medication, you may do so with a small sip of water.
  • Dress for Comfort: Wear loose, comfortable clothing and a short-sleeved shirt. Choose flat, supportive shoes and avoid wearing jewelry, contact lenses, or nail polish.
  • Practice Good Oral Hygiene: Brush your teeth and rinse your mouth thoroughly right before leaving for your appointment. This helps reduce bacteria in your mouth.
  • Arrive Early: Plan to arrive at few minutes earlier than your scheduled time. This allows you to complete any final paperwork without feeling rushed.

Our Commitment to You

Your trust and peace of mind are important to us. We encourage you to ask any questions you may have at any point leading up to your procedure. Following these pre-operative instructions is a vital part of our partnership in your care and helps ensure a safe experience and a comfortable recovery.
